It comes tightly rolled and protected in a cardboard cylinder and smells like a nice leather bag upon opening. It’s smooth on the top and more grippy underneath. Even the sensitive gaming mouse has no issues on it. The color is dark brown with hints of lighter brown like you’d see on a traveled briefcase. It might even look better with age. Impressive and classy finish piece to a work desk.I am a huge fan of desk pads and desk protectors but this is one of the nicest ones I have ever received. It has a soft backing with a smooth top so I can still use it in place of a mouse pad and coasters for desktop protection. There is a small "Brass Tacks" emblem imprinted in the lower corner of the mat which isn't hugely obtrusive. Looks classy and works great. No strong odor.Husband really likes it, and the natural imperfections in the leather. The brand is embossed in lower right corner. Just bought another as a gift.
